Sudath Jayasundara is a Law Graduate and an
Attorney at Law who counts over 20 years in
active practice at the bar. He also holds a
Diploma in International Affairs.
Born on 6th March 1966 in Colombo he had his
primary and secondary education at S. Thomas?
College Mount Lavinia from 1974 to 1985 during
his academic years he won some of the
coveted prizes for History and Political Science
such as the Sir Francis Molamure Prize and P.E.P
Deraniyagala Memorial Prize for History, M.P
De Z Siriwardene Memorial Prize for Political
Science for three consecutive years. He
continued to support college by being an
active member of the OBA, the Thomian
Society and the Old Thomians Swimming Club.
Being a witness to the holocaust of the 1983
civil riots where many of his friends fell victim
to it and left our beloved mother land, drove
him to promote national harmony among all
ethnic groups. Hence he was very much
involved in promoting national reconciliation
through a television programme ?Pibideema
/Elichi? which was well received by the public.
He also had a passion to resurrect the lives of
people in the war torn areas during the
Northern conflict by providing them food and
shelter. For this he had a coterie of friends who
supported him in this endeavor. He was also
ably supported and advised by the
Thanthirimale Raja Maha Vihare Chief Priest
the most Ven Chandrarathana Thero - the
Deputy Sanganayake of the North Central and
Eastern Province.
In the recent times he had been involved in
setting up a reverse osmosis plant for drinking
water in the Mihintale Anuradhapura area and
had built a Chaithiya in Talaimannar.
He is also the Honorary Chairman of Shraddha
TV and Lakviru Radio Network (Pvt) Ltd
foremost Buddhist Channels which has a large
viewership and listnership in Sri Lanka and
overseas.
He has also been awarded many titles from
Civil Society Organizations in recognition of
his contribution towards the propagation of
Dhamma and for National Reconciliation in Sri
Lanka.
His Buddhist grounding came from his
mothers? side, his Grandfather P.F.A
Goonetilake MBE (Member of the British
Empire) who was the Crown Proctor in
Kalutara, a founder member of the Kalutara
Bodhi Trust and Aranya Senasena. His
Grand-uncle H.H Basnayake Q.C. was the Chief
Justice of Sri Lanka a devout Buddhist who did
yeoman service for the upliftment of
Buddhism in Sri Lanka and his uncle Nehru
Goonetilake was a Presidents Counsel and the
former President of the Kalutara Bodhi Trust.
They were both Trustees of Musaeus College,
Colombo.
His father Stanley de Alwis Samaradiwakara
Jayasundara also comes from a rich Buddhist
background, whose ancestry hails from
?Agrahara? Waluwa in Weeraketiya which had
rendered yeoman service to temples in the
Giruwa Pattuwa Korale.
Sudath was appointed by the Government of
Sri Lanka as a Director/Legal Consultant to the
Ministry of Finance (Performance and
Efficiency Unit) in March 2016 and also as a
Director to the International Arbitration
Centre of Sri Lanka.
Thereafter he was appointed as Chairman
Lanka Transformers Holdings in March 2019
and relinquished this position in November of
the same year.
Whilst in active legal practice he is currently
the Chairman of Bimputh Finance PLC and
Blue Diamonds Jewellery PLC and also serves
as an Independent Director in some of the
prestigious public quoted companies in Sri
Lanka namely, Harischandra Mills (Matara)
PLC, Bogawanthalawa Tea Estates PLC,
Metropolitan Resources PLC, and also as a
Director of Electronic Technologies (Private)
Ltd and Sithara Limited.
Formerly, he was also a Board Director of
Telshan Network (Private) Ltd popularly
known as TNL TV.
He has currently set his sights on serving his
country and people in a bigger role and
attempts to bring about a paradigm shift in
Public Service and in Politics.
His aim is to utilize the knowledge and
experience gained from the Business, Legal and
Public Sector environment to ensure a better,
safer, cleaner Sri Lanka for our most valuable
asset, the future generation.
